Big Data Technical Lead – £700PD – OIR35 – Remote

Opportunity/project:
A global giant is searching for a Big Data Technical Lead with capabilities in Hadoop, Spark / Kafka with expertise in machine learning, natural language processing, and dialogue engines. While years of experience are not the main criteria, the candidate must demonstrate a strong proficiency and in-depth understanding of software development at an advanced level in these domains.

This role is to help the team by finding and developing the best Big Data talent; nurturing a culture of agility and promoting best practices like BDD, XP and Scrum. Currently my client is split into two teams that manage their Data Platform, their Core team that focusses on developing and maintaining the data platform as a whole and their Integration team that develops features that plug in to our internal and external customer products.

You’ll make a real impact working with Solution Architects, Product Owners, the Technical Lead community and the wider Data team to help shape future solutions, your team’s direction and promoting your products target vision.

The role:
This is a hands-on, technical leadership role, managing a team of data engineers working on a wide variety of big data applications. Responsible for the team’s agile ceremonies, technical decision making, recruitment and line management. Reporting to Senior Engineering Manager. Key part of architectural, technology and design decision making, working with peers and architects within Data and across the business.

Core skill set:

  • Strong grasp of Big Data, Hadoop, Spark or Kafka
  • Enthusiasm for agile and lean development
  • Experience with relevant such as Python, TensorFlow, and R, and comfortable across the big cloud providers
  • Experience leading a team in a technical or line management capacity
  • Exposure to operation of business critical data products
  • Strong understanding of Azure,
  • Git, CI/CD, Test driven approach (TDD/BDD)
